Shark Month at ACLEvery January we take a few weeks to reflect together about what it means to be the church of Jesus Christ. We use a definition that gives some shape and direction not only to our teaching, but also to the way we govern ourselves. Here's how we see the church: A faithful church is built on a foundation of Jesus Christ and expressed through fellowship, worship, discipleship and mission. It's pretty simple, really, but it's also very helpful in reminding us of our true focus and function as a community of Jesus-followers. Our leadership committees are even built around these principles. This January we used the image of a shark to describe how the church can live and serve in a way that is true to its nature. A shark swims, eats, and makes baby sharks. We think the church should do the same thing. We should be moving in the direction of God's leading, we should be feeding ourselves through prayer and study of the Scriptures, and in the end, we should be focused on making new disciples wherever we go...whatever we're doing. The Shark Church series can be found in PDF format below. Enjoy! And please feel free to send me comments or questions at john.delia@amchurch.co.uk. |
