Adult Sunday School(This class resumes after the summer vacation) At The American Church we believe that study and reflection are important parts of spiritual growth and mature discipleship. Join us each Sunday morning for an interactive class as we study the Bible, wrestle with questions, and explore what it means to be a Christian in our contemporary culture. 9:45am in the Choir Room (There is now childcare available!) Introducing Our 2009-10 Class What The Bible Says About Faith, Wealth and the Good Life
In this time of economic upheaval Christians are reflecting on the relationship we have to money and other resources. We are re-thinking what it means to earn, to spend, to give, to save and even to waste. All of these have an impact on our own lives and households, and all of these have an impact on the world around us. What does it mean to manage money and other resources in a Christian way? How does our management affect the rest of the world? In Christian thought these two related questions fall under the categories of stewardship and justice. The Bible has a lot to say about both topics, and it is our plan to explore the relevant texts of Scripture as we engage these issues in this time and place. We will also learn from other writings and sources—books, articles, newspapers and websites—anything that will help us in our quest to mature as disciples of Jesus Christ in this area of our lives. Over these next few months we will read, study, reflect, discuss and even debate what it means to live and act Christianly as we manage our own financial affairs. Our objective will be to grow in our understanding of what the Bible has to say about how we manage our money and other resources—how we are called to practice stewardship and justice—and to apply that deeper awareness in our own lives and households.
